Two-step into fabulous

Stampin' Up!'s® Two-Step Stampin'™ sets allow you to quickly and easily take your creativity to the next level by creating multilayered and multicoloured images without using markers or crayons. You simply stamp the base image with a light colour ink and then using a darker colour (or different colour) stamp the overlay or adjoining image on top. If you don't like the 'free-hand' approach with this technique then have more precision by using the Stamp-a-ma-jig to align the images more precisely! At the cost of $22.95 AUD it is a small investment for accuracy, and some people's sanity, and it also assists when placing individual letters to create a title on a scrapbook layout or other project.

Therefore, for the month of July Stampin' Up! are offering 20% off select Two-Step Stampin' sets from our current catalogues - no limit and no minimum purchase required!

So check out the list below to see if any are on your wish list or if you want to purchase a great set at a greatly reduced price!

Bye for now!

At last I can share my secret ...

It has been finally announced on the Just Add Ink blog who the new Design Team members are ... and guess what ... YES I am to be one of the Design Team additions (*big grin*)! How exciting is that? I was truly amazed that they considered my work to be worthy of being a part of the already amazing Design Team and am looking forward to working with them and the other new Design Team members!

So pop on over to the Just Add Ink blog and see who the other new members are and join in on a weekly basis, or when you can, with the challenges that are set. From sketch challenges, colour challenges to 'just add ...' challenges it is all a lot of fun!

My first DT challenge will be coming soon, and I am so looking forward to joining in on the other side of the fence and not just as a entrant in the challenges but a Design Team contribution.

I will also be wearing my new badge with pride on my blog:

Another JAI submission

My friend and I are throwing a baby shower this coming Sunday for a friend's daughter who is having her first baby (a boy they believe!) and so I wanted to make a unique card to go with the collection of useful baby items that my family are giving to her. I thought I would like to make a card in the shape of overalls and as I am not always good with drawing freehand patterns, I browsed the web to see if I could find and easy one to use. The web is a great resource when you are stuck for ideas or inspiration and I found the template I wanted here on Deneen's blog.

Of course, these overalls were to be made from my favourite SU! product at this moment, that being Sweet Slumber Specialty DSP and this would also fit along the them of this week's Just Add Ink challenge 'Just Add ... Patterned Paper'.

So here is the card I made, isn't it cute!

Stamps: Fox & Friends
Inks: Blue Bayou
Cardstock: Sweet Slumber Specialty DSP, Whisper White (for the turtle)
Accessories: Rich Regal Buttons, sponge daubers, Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker

Again, you can see I did very little stamping! On the inside of the card I am going to stick a small piece of Whisper White cardstock with edges sponged in Blue Bayou ink for us to write a short message on.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by! Don't forget to leave a comment should you feel inclined as I love to hear what response you have to what you see here on my blog.

No stamping, well almost!

This week's challenge over at Just Add Ink is to "Just Add ... Patterned Paper", and so this was right up my alley as I just LOVE using Designer Series Paper (DSP)! I love the way the packs of Stampin' Up! DSP all coordinate together and so often there is no need to use much else as it is so beautiful on its own and so versatile.

I have a stamp class this coming Friday and as my participants know there is always a 'Lucky Door Prize' and so I thought I would make a small box of thank you cards to give away this week. One of the 'Deals of the Week' for June was for DSP and of course I just had to buy some at the lovely discounted price! One of the ones I bought was Sweet Slumber Specialty and this pack is printed on textured, cover-weight cardstock which is ideal for making boxes and gift packaging. As lots of SU! products coordinate with each other it is easy to make a lovely matching gift set.

I used Ruby Red cardstock for my box base and a piece of Sweet Slumber Specialty DSP for the box cover. I then used matching pieces of the DSP, run through my Big Shot (which I just love using!) with the Bigz™ Top Note die and cut these in half to place on my card fronts. I decorated the front with some Riding Hood Red Taffeta Ribbon (which matches well with the Ruby Red) and a greeting - which was the only stamping that I did!

Stamps: Teeny Tiny Sentiments
Inks: Ruby Red, Basic Black
Cardstock: Sweet Slumber Specialty DSP, Whisper White
Accessories: Big Shot, Top Note dies, Curly Label punch, Word Window punch, Riding Hood Red Taffeta Ribbon, Sponge Dauber, Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker, ruler, Gift Cards & Mini Envelopes, Stampin' Dimensionals, Snail Adhesive

The boxed set includes 4 Thank You cards with envelopes. If you want to have a go at making this set too, consider booking your own workshop with me and have some creative fun with your friends.

I am sure whoever wins the lucky door prize will find these very useful and I definately enjoyed making these and entering another one of the JAI challenges! Pop on over and join in the fun or see what other great inspiration you can find.

Don't forget the that Wednesday is the last day to contact me for the last of June's 'Deals of the Week', click on the Special Offers link at the top of my blog for more details.

Have a lovely Sunday and thanks for stopping by!

Just Add Ink Challenge #22

Well it is time for another Just Add Ink Colour Challenge (or more specifically it is nearing the end of the time to enter the challenge) so pop on over to their blog and check out the other great creations and find inspiration to enter before it closes late Wednesday evening, 23 June!

I really liked the colour combination this week, which was inspired by the talented Bronwyn Eastley, it was...

Regular visitors to my blog would know that I like creating One Sheet Wonders, where you use a piece of Designer Series Paper or create your own with various stamps and colours, and then use this as the feature piece on a group of cards. Thus making a quick and easy set of coordinated cards in which to build up your personal supply or to box up and give as a gift to someone special.

Well, the colour combination inspired me to stamp up a piece of Whisper White cardstock (I used half an A4 size piece) with the colours above using the stamp sets - Simply Said and Seeing Spots. At first I was not sure whether to use the stamped piece as my card base and then simply embelish it and add a greeting or whether to cut it up, mount pieces and use these on several cards. In the end I decided to cut up one piece and use it on my card front as a feature panel, which means I have more left to use on several other cards.

So here is my stamped sheet of Whisper White cardstock using the colours above:

As you can see you do not need any particular skill to stamp like this, just random works well. Although I do try to cover most of the blank spaces as this can eliminate any gaps when it is cut up to use on your cards.

I decided to use one of the stamp sets currently on offer as part of our 'Deals of the Week' - All Scallops stamp set (regular price $55.95, sale price $27.98) which coordinates with the Scallop Edge Punch and made a nice border at the base of my card panel on Tempting Turquoise cardstock. Keeping with the theme of using current promotional stamps, I used another in this week's specials to stamp the 'thank you' greeting - Enjoy Every Moment stamp set (regular price $53.95, sale price $26.98).

And here is my completed card:

Close-up of my stamped scallop edge:

The greeting element is the part of my card that I do not like, why I am not sure. But I don't like the way I have done it, including the use of a turqouise rhinestone brad. I inked the edge of the Whisper White punched oval (using the Large Oval Punch) with Kiwi Kiss and then mounted this on Tempting Turquoise cardstock punched out using the Scallop Oval Punch. I felt this was lost on the randomly stamped background so I mounted it on to another oval in Kiwi Kiss cardstock using the Wide Oval Punch and raised it off the card with Stampin' Dimensionals. I am not sure but I don't like this element of my card, the rest I am happy with!

What do you think? Any suggestions on how this card could have been made better in terms of the greeting element?

Don't forget today is the last chance to take advantage of the 'Deals of the Week' special on a select few stamp sets - check out my post here for more details!

Been AWOL...

I have not created anything lately as I have been AWOL. I needed a break away and so I left home for a few days and travelled back to my roots - Circular Head (North West of Tasmania for my blog visitors from overseas, including mainland Australia!). The break was good for me and it was lovely to spend time with some of my nieces and nephews, they were a good distraction.

I stayed a couple of nights with one of my brothers, whose lovely wife Jacky, is a keen quilter! So together we played with the Big Shot and the Top Note Die to see if we could create a quilted bag - the kids all had a turn at turning the handle to cut out the pieces of material - see it's child's play and so easy to use!

First, I cut through one piece of material to show how easy, quick and sharp it was to cut through. Then as quickly as Jacky cut out a layered piece - material, wadding, material - we (the kids and I) cut out the pieces to make the bag. We did try to cut through two layered sets (2 x material, wadding, material) and although it cut through this a few strands were left connected which required snipping with scissors. Therefore, we felt it best to just use one layered set. This still made the cutting process so quick and easy and with them all neatly aligned together.

As a quilter Jacky could see the benefit of this machine to cut intricate designs such as the leaves, birds etc to stitch on to material.

The bag was very quick to sew together, atleast with Jacky's skills not mine! I was pleased with the result and will now use it to transport my dies, cutting pads and multipurpose platform to workshops - until of course I have too many to fit! It wasn't intentional but I also like the black and white pattern which matches my Big Shot!

Here are some photos of the results...

Thank you Jacky for doing this with me! It will be exciting when we can get some more dies, such as the Scallop Square, to do similar things with. It was also good to be able to show that the Big Shot can cut through material as well as cardstock, along with a multitude of other materials such as acetate, chipboard etc.

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to check out this week's special by clicking on the 'Special offers' link at the top of my blog!

Commissioned Birthday Card...

I was asked to make a birthday card for someone special and it needed to be a larger size than my standard card as it was going to be signed by numerous people who contributed to the special gift that was being given with it! I can not be too specific here in case the person happens to drop by my blog. Knowing the colour preference of this person I chose Elegant Eggplant as my feature colour and to help me get creative I used the Mojo Monday #142 Sketch as my inspiration and I also then had a card to enter in to this month's competition.

Here is my card...

White Embossed Flowers coloured using Ink Refills and Aqua Painter

Stamps:
Embrace Life, Natural Beauty (retired)
Inks: Pink Pirouette, Elegant Eggplant
Cardstock: Pink Pirouette, Bella Rose DSP, Elegant Eggplant, Whisper White
Accessories: Whisper White Embossing Powder, Pink Pirouette and Elegant Eggplant Ink Refills, Scallop Border Punch, Silver Brads, Elegant Eggplant Grosgrain Ribbon, Whisper White Taffeta Ribbon, Polka Dots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Stampin' Dimensionals, Sponge Daubers, Aqua Painters, Crystal Effects

I hope the person who requested this card and the one who receives it like what I have made as I certainly enjoyed making it!

Swap Sisters Bonny Blog Award

I sure needed a boost today and was pleasantly surprised to receive yet another blog award in my In Box when I checked my emails today!

Today's award was from Tia Routledge (thanks Tia!) who is a member of a group called Swap Sisters, which is where like-minded Stampin' Up! demonstrators and customers join in events such as challenges, punch art, scrapbooking, quizzes etc.

As part of receiving this award I need to:
  1. Put the Swap Sisters Bonny Blog Award on your blog and/or within your post. - CHECK!
  2. Share 5 things about yourself. - CHECK!
  3. Pass the award onto 5 other Bonny Blogs. - CHECK!
  4. Put links in your post of your 5 chosen Bonny Blog Winners. - CHECK!
  5. Let them know they have been chosen to win the Swap Sisters Bonny Blog Award by leaving a comment on their blog. - CHECK!
  6. PAY IT FORWARD and link the person from whom you received the Swap Sisters Bonny Blog Award. - CHECK!

The five things about myself are:
  1. I grew up on a dairy farm and milked cows before and after school.
  2. I met my husband while studying to become a teacher.
  3. My husband is seven years older than me (something my daughter thinks may be useful to know if and when she may date an 'older guy', she is 17!).
  4. I hate oysters!
  5. I seem to have lost my scrapbooking mojo and want to find it!

The five other 'Bonny Blog Winners, in no particular order (and hopefully not previously given an award by me so I can really 'pay it forward') are:
  1. Nicki Batchelor (my downline who is just starting her SU web/blog)
  2. Sharon Walsh
  3. Meegan Dale
  4. Petronela Hardy
  5. Tina Dickman

I hope you all have had a lovely day and don't forget to pop back sometime tomorrow when the next 'Deals of the Week' is announced.

Colour Renovation Update...

Recently Stampin' Up!® announced that they are having a Colour Renovation whereby they are revamping their colour families in to a refreshing, updated colour palette! Through extensive research and the desire to stay up-to-date with trends in colour they are creating four new colour collections which combine some current colours with previous In Colors and five new colours. Therefore, we will have some wonderful new colours and combinations to play with but it will also mean that some of our favourite colours will be going.

Stampin' Up! have just announced that some of these retiring colours are being depleted in stock quicker than they had anticipated and so from today these retiring colours will be only available while stocks last!
If some of your favourite colours are on the list of those colours that are retiring (click above image to download PDF document of Retiring Colours) then I suggest you be quick and email me with an order for inks, refills, cardstock and ribbon etc to ensure you don't miss out and have stock of your favourite colours to play with for a while longer!

The new colour collections will be available in the new Idea Book & Catalogue that is to be released 1 September 2010 - I can't wait to see what new stamp sets and accessories SU will have for us!

Don't forget to pop back here Wednesday to see what is the next 'Deals of the Week' that SU has to offer in June!

Stamp Class Projects

I really enjoy getting prepared for my monthly stamp classes and for this month and each one up until October, I have increased the cost from $10 to $15 to not only include the regular techniques session and related project, but to also include two Christmas cards. Therefore, anyone who comes to my classes from now until October will be getting a head start on their Christmas cards for this year! My November stamp class will be my traditional Christmas Stamp-a-Stack where participants get to make at least 12 Christmas cards in the one session. I am considering having an additional Christmas in July Stamp-a-Stack to help boost everyone's Christmas card stack even more! So check back regularly to see details of my stamp classes by clicking on the link on the top left-hand side of my blog.

On to showing you the two card designs that will be made at this Friday's class...

Firstly, we will be covering the Faux Linen Technique (a tutorial on this can be found by clicking here to the Splitcoast Stampers website - a great resource site!) and as we more often than not make feminine type cards, we will be going to make a masculine one this time! I will also be featuring the Sense of Time stamp set which is a great one for this type of card and lately I have seen so many other different ways to use it that I want to try some more. One of my sample cards will also include a clear embossed clock front but I have not as yet got that one completed.

The Christmas cards that they will be making will be similar to this one below, and they will get to make two! This will also be a reminder to those who attend how to do the Polished Stone Technique and the Emboss Resist Technique (techniques we have done before but not recently!).

We have lots of fun at these events and get inspiration from one another! If you would like to make any of the cards above book a workshop by contacting me today and getting your family and friends together for some fun and creativity! This way you can also earn some lovely FREE SU! products for yourself and we have some great 'Deals of the Week' during the month of June, so even more reasons to hold your own workshop.
