Just Add Ink #163

Well it is that time of the week again for another Just Add Ink challenge and following on from the fun of last week's challenge (to try a new technique), this week we have another great challenge, suggested by the beautiful Nikki Spencer, and that is to...

Just Add...a FUN background!

I immediately thought of children's cards with this theme and as my daughter needed a birthday card for her god-daughter who was turning 6 I had the right inspiration and this is what I came up with...

I used the fun stamp set 'Circle Circus' and some lovely bright inks, Real Red, Tempting Turquoise, Pumpkin Pie and Old Olive, to create my fun background and then mounted it onto Tempting Turquoise cardstock. I used a retired stamp set 'Whale Wishes' to stamp my image and sponged the edges with Tempting Turquoise and mounted it onto Real Red cardstock. I added the number 6 in Real Red cardstock, cut out using my BigShot and the Timeless Type number dies.

I think I forgot to photograph the inside of my card, but I simply added an additional piece of Whisper White, inked the edges with Tempting Turquoise and put a few coloured bubbles around the edges. I also stamped an additional birthday greeting on the inside too.

The Design Team have some other fun backgrounds to share with you, so pop on over to the Just Add Ink blog to get more inspiration and have some FUN yourself.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend.

Commissioned Cards

Can I call it a commissioned card if my daughter asks for a card from my 'stash' to give to her father for his birthday? Well, I didn't actually have one that quite suited and so grabbed a partly finished card and by adding a few extra stamped images here and there, plus an embelishment and appropriate greeting the card was done!

She was happy with it and it went along with her gift of a book and DVDs to her dad. The other present he got that day was a remote controlled boat from our son and daughter-in-law...he has been wanting a boat for a while now, but I think his idea was one that he could sit in! [My gift to him was going to be a new waterproof/diving watch, however, our favourite watch repairer Craig, convinced Gary to first see if we can repair his old watch as it has sentimental value to him and has been reliable up until the last few years. So now we need to locate it and take it in to see what can be done first.]

The other commissioned card was from my friend/work colleague Kate, who loves my personalised baby cards and requested one for a friend of hers in Canada, with an 'Aussie' theme. [I will have to do one for Kate soon as she is about to turn the big '40'.] I wasn't quite sure what I could do for this theme and the JAI girls gave some suggestions, which I will keep for another time, as I found a 'digi' image that I thought suited quite well and gave me some practice using my Copics. What do you think, will it fit the request?

As it was a special card I wanted to continue my latest venture into decorating the inside of the card, but didn't quite know how to do it with no coordinating stamps that I am used to with SU! stamp sets. So I popped on over to the very talented Teneale Williams' blog, who inspires me with her cards and especially how she decorates the insides as beautifully as she does the front, to see if she could give me some ideas. I found this one on her blog and used her inside idea to finish mine off, I think it worked well. Thanks Teneale!

Have a great week and thanks for stopping by, and for any lovely comments you might share with me.

New Storage Solution for Wood Mount Stamps!

How exciting is this, come 1 July 2013 Stampin' Up! are introducing new wood-mount stamp set packaging!

These new cases are similar to the clear-mount boxes and fit perfectly on the shelf right next to them. They also have the images and stamp set name on the spine to make searching for the right set even easier.
Starting 1 July all wood-mount sets will come in this new packaging and empty cases will also be available with the launch of the new catalogue. That means you can transfer all your old sets to these new boxes! There will even be a template for you to create your own label for your old stamp sets (available 1 July). A pack of four half-size cases (9.5 x 14 cm) will sell for $8.95 AUD and a pack of four full-size cases (19.1 x 14 cm) will be $11.95 AUD.

I can't wait for Convention and for all the exciting new products in the upcoming catalogue--especially the new wood-mount boxes!

JAI#161 - Colour Challenge

Well it is time to get back in to the regular programming of Friday's being Just Add Ink challenge day, and so this week we have a Colour Challenge for you, direct from the Stampin' Up! Colour Coach...
A perfect time for these colours to be featured as More Mustard is being discontinued when SU! have their Colour Refresh in the upcoming 2013-2014 Annual Catalogue.

I had fun getting back in to the JAI Challenges and here is my card for this week, notice the double bow on the ribbon...

Carrying on with my recent efforts of decorating the inside of my card as well, here is the inside...

There was lots of variety from the Design Team this week so why don't you pop on over to Just Add Ink to see what the others came up with to inspire you with this colour combination and then join in the challenge, upload your design and share it with us all. Have fun, have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by!

More Birthdays!

April is an especially busy month for me in terms of birthdays within my family, Gary's family and friends. So to start off there is Gary's tomorrow and as I was short on time in coming up with something original and inspirational, I just picked one of my favourite stamp sets that makes me think of him The Open Sea. I then looked on Pinterest to see what I had pinned there using that stamp set and Deb Fearns' clean and simple design took my fancy. So here is my card using here design and colours etc.

As you can see I even decorated the inside just a little. Now to work out what to write without being too mushy! Thanks for the inspiration Deb.

A few days after Gary's is my niece Fiarna's birthday and they eagerly await their handmade card to arrive in the post and so to get it there on time I had to again get a card made quickly. So picking out a stamp set that I hadn't yet inked up but thought it would be nice was Pedal Presents (a retired hostess set). I then Googled the stamp set and browsed through the various images of cards that came up and found inspiration from a few and made the following card...

I was really happy with how this card turned out. I coloured various elements of my image with my Stampin' Write Markers and added some pearls to give it some glam! I must confess to stamping these images several times trying to get them exactly as I wanted.

As you can see I also decorated the inside of this card too!

Don't forget to drop by tomorrow as Friday is Just Add Ink challenge day!

JAI Scrap Challenge

Well it isn't often that I find the time to enter JAI's Scrap Challenges but as I was playing around with MDS today I thought I would give it a go!

The theme for this month is to "Just Add Siblings" and I remembered two photos that I had of both of my children together for a very special occasion, my son's wedding. So that is where I started and with the help of MDS I was able to blend the two photos together on a page by adjusting the photos to black & white and the other to sepia (the original photos had, one an orange tone and the other purple from the bridesmaid dress, which didn't gel well together).

What I found by playing with MDS and this digital layout is that I could always 'delete' what I didn't like and start over, if I had cropped the actual printed photo for a hardcopy page and then wanted to add back what I had cut off - no such luck! I also found it a lot easier to move things around, resize and adjust, than what I would on an actual hardcopy layout. Although, I do prefer the 'tactile' approach to my scrapbooking and may use this as a way to plan out my layouts...I know double the work, but then I can have both a virtual album plus a hardcopy album...best of both worlds, perhaps!

Here is the layout I did and my daughter liked it too! That is a compliment as she doesn't always like photos of herself, but she liked how I put this together, including the text.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great week.

MDS - First Digital Layout!

I have had a chance to play in my craft room again after such a long absence and it has been fun...although you will have to wait until the next few JAI challenges are up on Fridays to see what I have created in the card area.

However, I have also had a little bit of a play with My Digital Studio (MDS) and made my first digital layout. As my mind has been starting to focus on Stampin' Up!'s upcoming Convention in May, to be held in Brisbane, I got reminiscing about the last one (and first one for me!) that I went to in Melbourne in 2011. That was where I got to meet some of the Just Add Ink Design Team members face to face rather than just chatting and crafting online together.

This page was so easy to do as it was a template within the program itself, and although it has a French theme with the Eiffel Tower and we didn't go there, it was a good one for my mood today...memories! I just had to simply add a photo and some text and voila the page was done!

I can't wait for Convention in May where I will get to hang out with many of these girls again and some of the others in Brisbane.

If you are into digital scrapbooking and love the coordination of Stampin' Up! products then maybe MDS is for you. You can try it for 30-days for FREE or order it online at my SU! store for only $24.95, click here to buy!
